More Green Gorging

by thestarvingartistfood

As I mentioned yesterday, Sunday was the July Beer Garden at Tender Greens. This was my third time attending the monthly event at my beloved local salad spot. If you’re a regular reader of this blog you’ve heard me gush about the previous two beer gardens: pig in May and lamb in June. This month’s featured animal was goat. I know, I was weirded out too. But honestly, it turned out to be my favorite of all the whole roasted animals I’ve had at the beer garden. Call me crazy but it seemed to have more fat and flavor than the others. But I think the real difference was the heavy seasoning with an Ethiopian spice blend known as berbere. According to Chef Eric, he injected the spice in liquid form into the goat and then rubbed the outside liberally with dry. The result was a really deep and spicy seasoning, which I really like. Super tender, super crispy skin – delicious.

But really I don’t need to tell you how indescribably delicious all the food was. I mean, come one, cod cakes, heirloom tomato salad, grilled whole arctic char, and one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. What I really love about this event is the event itself. I brought 4 new friends with me this time and they had an absolute blast – already committed to the next one. And I even had a group of 4 friends who joined me last time make their own reservation and attend this time. So much fun!!! My friend Brooks made a really good point – as starving artists, we never get food like this, much less all-you-can-eat. It’s true fine dining at a starving artist price with an atmosphere that is downright contagious. What could be better?

My goal is to take over the entire beer garden by October. Can we do it? We’ll see…

Tomorrow: peanut butter s’mores!!! :-O
